KI-61 HIEN “TONY” When this fighter appeared in the Pacific skies, it was thought that it was a Japanese copy of the famous German Messer Schmitt Bf 109. In fact, it was powered by a version of the German DB-601, the type used in the Bf 109, but the plane itself was original and more efficient than the German plane.
