AMERIGO VESPUCCI —This ship was named after the Italian cartographer and explorer for whom the “New World” was named. A three-masted sailing ship, it was launched in 1931, and is now a training ship for the Italian Naval Academy. Its style is reminiscent of a 19th warship. The model can be built with a full hull, or can be displayed on its waterline. A stand is included. The intricate gold carving on the bow is depicted on the detailed decal. ESMERALDA Valparaiso, Chile, is the homeport of this beautiful four-masted ship. The power that can be provided by the vast yardage of the sails is evident on this ship, which was built in 1953 at Cadiz, Spain. Now, it is a school ship for the Chilean Navy. SAGRES II —The Sagres II was originally built as the Albert Leo in 1937, and launched at Hamburg, Germany. After the war, it was taken over by the United States, who gave it to Brazil. Now, it is owned by the Portuguese Navy. An attractive ship, it’s square sails are decorated with red Maltese crosses and the hull is trimmed in gold carvings, all presented on the decal sheet. Although a full set of sails is provided, the model can be built to represent the ship with them stowed, as if in port. The hull can be built full, or you can display it as a waterline model. JUAN SEBASTIAN DE ELCANO A four masted, topsail schooner, the Juan Sebastian de Elcano has sailed around the world six times since it was launched in 1927. It is 370 long and carries 20 sails for its driving force. It is used now by Spain for crew training. This miniature replica of the ship has the four masts and all the sails needed to cruise into your model ship collection. The fine gold carving on the hull is reproduced on the decal sheet, and the model comes with a display stand for the full hull, or it can be built for display as if under full sail, plowing through the water of a diorama.
